Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) de Pierre-De Saurel
Two main missions characterize the functions of the Pierre-De Saurel MRC.
First of all, the MRC administers the supra-local regional services such as area planning, waste management, public and fire safety, and waterway management, protection of woodlands, property assessment and mass transit.
Over the years, the MRC has also acquired responsibility for regional economic development. By acting as a municipal collaborative body, the MRC plays an essential role in projects that aim to improve the quality of life of citizens in a perspective of sustainable development.
In this respect, the MRC is responsible for the Centre local de développement de Pierre-De Saurel and allocates it an annual operating budget.
The MRC has also been mandated to develop a regional cultural policy and a regional family policy that will become effective at the end of 2010.
The MRC is also responsible for implementing the Pacte rural (rural pact) that will allow rural municipalities to develop defining projects for their communities.
Finally, the MRC invests in its region through a regional investment fund.
